Kim's Crafty Apple Studio

Kim’s Crafty Apple Studio

What kind of Art/Crafts do you do?
I do a little bit of everything. I quilt, I sew bags, I make jewellery (rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets), I paint, I decoupage - you name it, I probably have done it or have the supplies to try it someday.

Where do you create?
I have a quarter of my basement set aside for me to create in.

How do you keep all your supplies organised?
In shelves, apple crates (we have an apple orchard so these are rather handy), plastic bins, and boxes. I keep my beads in fishing lure tool boxes. I have over 20 of them, I could use more.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep your space tidy?
I don't. My space is usually a disaster. I do so many things that it's hard to keep it all picked up and looking nice.

Any tips for how to keep art spaces tidy or organised?
Have a great husband that likes to build shelves instead of asking you to throw things away.

Do you get stressed out when your space gets in a mess?
No, I'm actually a bit stressed out now that my space is clean and organized (just completed the task last night). It looks so nice I don't want to mess it up. I love my mess; it means I'm in my zone.

If you could have your dream space tomorrow what would it look like?
Lots of windows, Lots of shelves, a great little area for my kids to create their own things in, a super comfortable chair for sewing and beading, a large wall space to hang my quilts up to help make decisions, great natural lighting. It would be really nice to have a little 'cottage' to work in that was separate from the house with its own little kitchenette and bathroom. Then I could just spend the entire day there and never have to leave.

Do space limitations get in the way of projects you have in mind?
I would like to have my own long-arm quilting machine - that takes up an entire room, not happening anytime soon.

What is the next big thing on your wish list for your art space?
Better lighting. I'm in the back corner of the basement with no windows, my lighting isn't very good but I'm just grateful to have the space.

Where can people view your work or purchase it?
