Dawn Houser's Studio

What kind of Art/Crafts do you do?

I work with different media, depending on my mood that day. I love needlework, sewing to collage.

Where do you do your art/crafts?
I try to contain it in my studio, but if you ask my kids, it usually winds up on the dining table, too.

How do you keep all your supplies organised?
For smaller craft supplies, I use metro shelf units and Ii adjusted their shelves to fit two sterlite containers on top of each other. For fabrics and fibres, etc, I use the larger plastic bins and more metro shelf units adjusted accordingly.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep your space tidy?
There usually is a tipping point where I just have to stop and organize it. Sadly, I am a bit of a schizo crafter and have different projects going at the same time. Not good.

Any tips for how to keep art spaces tidy or organised?

Last month, I reorganized my studio and took every item out and grouped them with like items and each plastic bin has a contents label that lets me know what is in the bin.

Do you get stressed out when your space gets in a mess?
um, YES!

If you could have your dream space tomorrow what would it look like?
I wish that I had more tables, but if I had more tables, I would probably have more projects in process so I should probably stick with what I have.

My old studio was twice the size as mine now, but I love this studio.

Is there any craft you would love to do but cant due to limitations of your art space?
Yes, I wish I had a press, guillotine and wire-o binder.

What is the next big thing on your wish list for your art space?
When I get out of graduate school, I want to utilize my garage/barn.

Is there a website for people to see or buy your art/crafts?
