Amg-Arts Studio

What kind of Art/Crafts do you do?
I am a Collage/Mixed Media Artist; I am also studying a Degree in Textile Design.

Where do you create?
I use a spare room as my studio.

How do you keep all your supplies organised?
Large units of drawers, and lots of clear plastic boxes inside, all labelled including the drawers to keep a track of where everything is kept.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep your space tidy?
I have O.C.D and I need to clean my space before I can sit down and work, if I am working on a on-going project I might leave some of the items out but usually I put everything away.

Any tips for how to keep art spaces tidy or organised?
Find everything a place, and keep things labelled so you don’t forget where you put them. And do a big clean up, re-organising every few months. Look at photos of other studios, print one out that you like and that might help you get motivated to have a clean/pretty/organised ‘whatever your looking for’, in a studio.

Do you get stressed out when your space gets in a mess?
Yes, I can’t sit down and start a new project without tidying and cleaning out the space.

If you could have your dream space tomorrow what would it look like?
We own a large old hay loft above some sheds that I want to turn into my studio; it will have lots of natural light in it something I don’t have in my present studio. But best of all it’s a large space and will give me the freedom to do larger pieces. So the loft will be my ‘Dream Space’.

Do space limitations get in the way of projects you have in mind?
I would love to do bigger pieces but at the moment for that it means I end up working on the floor, not very comfortable, and also when I’m working with wax it’s not very practical. I would love to put in two very large desks or tables, one for the messy things and another for when I do the cleaner things i.e making cards, guestbook’s etc

What is the next big thing on your wish list for your art space?
At the moment I am waiting for my sewing machine to come, (why I have the small table empty). I would love a new printer, the Dell one I have is too expensive to run with the price of the inks. Ideally I would love a laser printer but because of the expensive I’ll probably just get another ink jet. Also a Digital Craft Cutter would be nice for my paper craft side of my art.

Where can people view your work or purchase it?

  1. what a great space, mine is always a mess. I function much better with everything just all around me. I have never been one for organization.

  2. Ann, your new space looks great! :o) I could only wish for being so tidy all the time ... with my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and big ambitions, I often have a hard time keeping up with it. (Wanna come clean mine? ;o) )
