Cathy Rodgers Studio

Cathy Rodgers Studio

What kind of Art/Crafts do you do?
I paint ceramic pieces that fall into two basic categories:

1.) Personalized and monogrammed gift items for babies, children, birthdays, weddings and holidays

2.) serving pieces for your kitchen, such as plates, bowls and coffee mugs. In addition to ceramics, I like to paint canvases with oils and dabble in watercolour paintings, too. So many creative projects . . . . so little time!

Where do you create?

I'm very fortunate to have the "bonus room" over the garage at my home as my art studio.

How do you keep all your supplies organised?
I have an 8' laminate countertop where I paint my ceramics, a large easel for painting on canvases and lots of cabinets below the countertop and above it to store supplies in. I've also got an old chest of drawers from my son's room and a set of cabinets on rollers that have a variety of drawer sizes to store supplies. My kiln is out in the garage, since it cannot be placed on a carpeted floor.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep your space tidy?
I typically do not stay motivated to keep my space tidy. :( Only when I cannot see the surface of the countertop or the floor, will I stop to put things away. This is a very bad habit and not one that I recommend to anyone else.

Any tips for how to keep art spaces tidy or organised?
See my answer to the above question.

Do you get stressed out when your space gets in a mess?
Yes, I do get stressed out over the mess in my studio, but not until the mess has reached epic proportions!

If you could have your dream space tomorrow what would it look like?
I would have vinyl tiles - or whatever they use in school classrooms, instead of the carpeting that I have now. So that I could easily clean up spilled paint, instead of looking at paint spilled on my carpet and thinking "oh well, the carpet's ruined!" I would also have my room a little wider than my current space, so that I could have a large work island in the centre of the room. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the space that I have. In fact, I feel a little guilty making any criticism of the space that I have, because I know I'm very fortunate to have as much room as I do.

What is the next big thing on your wish list for your art space?
New curtains and mini blinds.

Where can people view your work or purchase it?
