C. Rae Nelson's Studio

What kind of Art/Crafts do you do?
Mixed Media, Artist Trading Cards and Art Journaling.

Where do you do your art/crafts?
My craft space is in a small walkway between the living room and backyard.

How do you keep all your supplies organised?
I keep similar items together.  My most used items are close by and almost everything is out where I can see it.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep your space tidy?
With such a small space, it does not take much for it to look messy.  My craft space also houses the family computer and the island workspace is where my daughters do their homework.  Sharing this with others keeps me motivated to keep it clean.

Any tips for how to keep art spaces tidy or organised?

I set my space up in little work and storage areas.  My craft table is where I do most of my projects and keep most of my supplies, but will use my beeswax on the butcher block (covered with a glass cutting board), where I keep all of my beeswax and paint brushes used for that medium.

I’m the kind of person who uses what I can see, so open storage works best in my situation and my purchases for workspaces and storage were made accordingly.  All the furniture in my craft space is second hand, either from yard sales or Craigslist.

Do you get stressed out when your space gets in a mess?
Absolutely yes!  I like when everything is in its place.

If you could have your dream space tomorrow what would it look like?
I really like my space, so I would keep it as is but with bigger windows.

Is there any craft you would love to do but cant due to limitations of your art space?

I would love to have the space to start playing  with encaustics, there are so many colors I would want to work with, but right now I only have enough room to keep my natural and white beeswax out and ready to use.

Also, it’s frustrating having to bring out and put away the sewing machine every time I need to use it, so I don’t use it as much as I would if I had the space to keep it out all of the time.

What is the next big thing on your wish list for your art space?
A new computer and an upgrade from Adobe Elements to Photoshop CS.

Is there a website for people to see  your art/crafts?
